Not the week we hoped for...

We began the week excited to finally have Ethan at home from the hospital (Feb 6).  But early in the week Ethan took another turn as his fluids and electrolytes were not balanced.  Unfortunately, after a 5 PM trip to the doctor’s office and 5 hours in the Emergency Department, Ethan was readmitted on Feb 10th. 2015 has not started out as we had expected.  Ethan has now spent 33 out of 44 days at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center this year.  When does he get a break? When do we all get a break?
The good news (we guess) is that he was admitted with no surgical needs and is under the care of the Yellow Team (Complex Care).  We are exercising our “HOPE” muscles that he is discharged tomorrow (Feb 14), on Zakary’s birthday – Happy Birthday, Zak!  He is celebrating with 1,000+ NFTY “friends” from across the USA at NFTY Convention in Atlanta this weekend.  Zak continues to be the “ROCK” of the family, rising to any challenge or task we ask him to accomplish.  We find it hard to believe that 18 years have flown by since Zakary’s birth in Sacramento, California.
Time is a funny thing.  Sometimes it flies by at the speed of light and at other times crawls at the pace of a tortoise.  These accumulated 33 days of hospitalization have gone by painfully slow.  We look forward to getting back to a routine of out-patient therapies, school and doctor appointments—the regular drumbeat of Ethan’s rehabilitation program—as well as keeping up with Zakary and Elyse’s busy lives.
Stay warm; hug a loved one – Happy Valentine’s Day – Happy Birthday, Zak.
Shabbat Shalom,
Alexia and Scott
